Easter Holiday Bali Getaway - Day 1 South Peninsula

Good Friday is a public holiday in Singapore. We took only 2 days off from work and we could enjoy a 5D4N holiday in Bali.

Bali weather in April

Generally the wet season is over in April. It should be warm and great. However world climate is changing so you will never know.

It was hot and humid during our 5 days stay in Bali and it rained in 2 afternoons.

What to do in Bali?

There are plenty of activities can be done in this beautiful island. Snorkeling, diving, temple visit, river rafting, marine sports, spa massage and etc. We hired a driver to take us around Bali during our stay, this made our trip much easier.

Red dots mark the popular tourist attractions in Bali. Black dots represent famous destinations in Bali.

Singaraja: black sand and beaches, dolphins and peaceful surroundings

Kintamani: spectacular view across a magical crater lake

Bedugul: market garden area, cool and fresh, home to the botanical garden and fabulous Bali Handara Kosaido Golf course

Tanah Lot: a holy temple poised on a small offshore island gives a wonderful photo opportunity and a marvelous sunset

Ubud: Bali's cultural heart with a large number of museums, galleries and artist's workshops to visit, there are also some outstanding restaurants

Seminyak: Bali most fashionable area, some best restaurants, bars, nightlife and other unique shops can be found here

Legian: located in between Kuta and Seminyak, Legian has great restaurants, cafes, shops and a quiter beach

Kuta: famous Kuta beach is the centre for surfers, it is also the clubbing area open till dawn

Sanur: the original beach resort, Sanur's quiet charm still appeals and has many fine hotels and restaurants

Nusa Dua: there are many 5 star hotels and shopping complex here, the main conference centre is also here

I would strongly encourage everyone who visit Bali to hire a driver if you want to do day trip in Bali. Few reasons for this.
  1. Tourists in Bali use taxis or motorbikes for short journey and private drivers for longer journey (like us). A taxi could cost you anything they want to charge if you need to stay late at night and you leave with no option. That could be Rp500,000 or more.
  2. You can also rent a car or motorbike yourself. However you may be stopped by police and fine you whatever reasons they want and any fine amount they want! That's what my guide told me. Read here
  3. Local driver can help to get a better rate in some spa salons and water rafting company. We paid Rp400,000 2 hours spa in Bali Orchid Spa which they usually charge USD70 and Payung Rafting company charged us Rp350,000 for water rafting where their website state the price at USD65.
  4. We get to know more about Balinese culture and daily life from our driver

Day 1 activity

Denpasar - Tanjung beach - Pandawa beach - Uluwatu

Our driver, Eka, picked us up from airport at 10am, sent us to hotel and kicked start our Bali trip to Tanjung beach. By doing this, it saved us some money on the airport pick up transfer.

We had lunch at Iiga Warung (Jalan Uluwatu II, Jimbaran) before heading to Tanjung beach. It's a local Balinese cuisine restaurant and recommended by Eka. We ordered BBQ pork ribs rice set Rp65000, grilled chicken rice set Rp70,000, 1 coke, 1 orange juice and cost us Rp205,700. BBQ pork ribs goes well with the BBQ sauce and crackers. This restaurant serves salad, spring roll, pork ribs, beef ribs, grilled chicken, nasi goreng, mee goreng, cahjamur, soup iga, banana fritter and three scoop ice cream. Read their review here. Many people always compare this restaurant with Ubud's Naughty Nuri.

Many drivers bring their customers to here too. Eka told us that he doesn't get commission and he is just trying to help local. I'm not sure if this is true but I do enjoy the food and service at this place. It's not very expensive but I know this is not the place where local will visit. Even so, only richer local.

Tanjung beach

There are many marine sports at Tanjung Beach. Flying fish, parasailing, jet ski and other activities' price are mostly quoted at USD30 - USD35 for a 15 minutes ride. We tried 15 minutes jet ski and it was fun! We wanted to try parasailing but it's usually available in the morning due to the wind direction. Low tide also affects activity which involves speedboat.

Shower head facility, changing room, toilet and lockers (Rp30,000 allows you to open and close 3 times) are available there.

Pandawa beach

Pandawa beach seems to be very famous among Indonesian. Pandawa beach is a very beautiful beach yet less heard. Entrance ticket Rp5,000 per pax. We sat down at one of the beach bed at Rp5000. There are many food vendors selling BBQ corn, coconut drinks. Massage service is also available. We just relax there for an hour.

Your little kids will love this place. They can do canoe paddling in the bay or wading in the rock pool.

Uluwatu temple

After Pandawa beach, we moved to Uluwatu. Uluwatu is famous for its sunset view. You need to wear sarung to enter the temple premises and sarung is provided. Entrance ticket Rp20,000 per pax.

Monkey alert! Remember no loose item. No necklace, no hat, no spectacles (I know you need it but just make sure don't get snatched), no earrings, no bracelet. You can pay local Rp10,000 to get your things back for you but no guarantee. Monkeys are fierce here!

I saw how this monkey snatched this pair of spectacles from a tourist when his girlfriend taking his picture.
