Takayama - Shirakawago - Kanazawa - Kyoto - Osaka
Kanazawa 金沢 somehow doesn't really attract me. I included Kanazawa in the intinerary simply because it's on the way. We took Niho bus from Shirakawago bus station. Bus ticket cost ¥1800/pax one way. Niho bus departs from Shirakawago 3 times daily. Reservation is required. Click here for more information. If you can understand Japanese, you can make the reservation on Nohi website (Japanese version). I wrote email to Shirakawago Tourist Association info-e@shirakawa-go.gr.jp and get their help to reserve bus ticket. You can also write email to Takayama tourist centre for help kankou@hida.jp if you want to go Takayama from Kanazawa. Takayama Tourism Office is not an official bus ticket booking agency. If they agree to book for you, they are doing it out of courtesy and you should please do your best to avoid a "no-show".

We stayed at Garden Hotel Kanazawa. Fantastic location, it's only 5 mins walking distance from Kanazawa station. It's directly opposite Kanazawa bus terminal. You can take bus from here to Shirakawago and Takayama. You can also take train to Kyoto from here. There are a few departmental stores beside train station. Shopping and dining is not a problem at all.

We took bus to Omicho market 近江町市場. It is the largest fish market in Kanazawa. I'm a fan of mentaiko but I couldn't find it in Omicho market. Usually I got it from Ameyoko market or Tsukiji market in Tokyo. Kenrokuen 兼六園 is just 20 mins walk from Omicho market. It is one of the Japan's 3 most beautiful garden. The name Kenrokuen means "Garden of the Six Sublimities".
